Cascade Mountain

Skiers celebrated 1962 with extra enthusiasm as Cascade Mountain opened in Portage, Wisconsin with eight trails, one chairlift, one T-bar and one rope tow. Fifteen years later, Cascade Mountain, Inc. purchased the ski area and began extensive plans to expand the resort. After adding a variety of exciting trails and chair lifts through the years, Cascade Mountain purchased 50 more snow guns in 1990 to ensure the best skiing experience possible. Over the next few years, other popular additions included the installation of Chairlift C and Bunny Chair E. In 1996, the thrills and chills continued as snowboarding was introduced at the mountain. That year Cascade Mountain also purchased three World Machines, the world's largest snowguns. As one of the region's most technologically advanced resorts, Cascade Mountain installed Wisconsin's first high-speed detachable quad chairlift in 1998 and the Midwest's first automated snowmaking system in 2001
